Teenage Depression

Team Members: Akshita Problem Statement: A mental health disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.Possible causes include a combination of biological, psychological and social sources of distress. Increasingly, research suggests that these factors may cause changes in brain function, including altered activity of certain neural circuits in the brain. User Persona: 300 million people worldwide are suffering from depression. India is the most depressed country in the world, according to the World Health Organisation, followed by China and the USA. A study reported in WHO,states that at least 6.5 per cent of the Indian population suffers from some form of the serious mental disorder. One in six people aged 10-19 years is suffering from depression. Interview: A student Ankita’s parent couldn’t understand why she didn’t want to attend school, despite getting good grades. The 11-year-old skipped meals and had angry outbursts. Her worried parents took her to a therapist. After several sessions, she told her counsellor that she was a victim of cyber bullying.
