Problem Statement: India is a developing nation. And with rapid urbanisation, waste management has become a major concern for the society. Statistics show that cities generate around 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste per annum. Only 11.9 MT is treated and 31 MT is dumped in landfill sites haphazardly. These sites soon become a breeding ground for various diseases. It's high time now that we rework our strategies as per the changing lifestyle. As the first step always starts at the source, waste segregation becomes a topic of paramount importance. It enables proper and efficient recycling while also decreasing the amount of waste that goes to landfills. It also makes it easier to sort waste and treat it properly. The dry waste could be recycled and the wet waste can be used as compost later on.
