Alcohol Detection,Public Safety &Driver Safety Measures

  • In the recent years, drunk driving has been one of the major causes of deaths across the world. This project aims at detecting how drunk a driver is and if he/she is in a state to drive or not. If they are drunk when they enter the vehicle, the engine is switched off automatically. If the driver drinks while the vehicle is in motion, the rpm is reduced and the vehicle is brought to a stop. After,the engine is locked, they can opt to book a cab home with the help of an app. If the driver is indeed not drunk and still wants to start the vehicle, a captcha code provided in the app has to entered. This provides another layer of security.

  • 1) Do you face this problem?

    Yes!Very often we spot drivers who have lost control of their vehicle because of alcohol consumption.

    2) Do you know anyone who does?

    Yes.Many of my fellow drivers and passengers face the same problem as I do.

    3) Examples / Experiences on this

    I spotted an accident ,a few months ago,where a car driver had crashed his vehicle into a light post because he was inebriated.Thankfully, no lives were lost.

    4) Is there anything that solves this? Why don't you use it?

    Police use alcohol detectors to monitor drivers.However, they cannot be physically present at all times and sometimes resort to bribery resulting in compromise of public safety.

    5) How much would you pay to fix it?

    Human lives cannot be given a tag price. However, I wouldn't hesitate to pay Rs.5000/- for the mechanism. 


  • 1.Detection of amount of alcohol consumed by the user.

    2.Reducing rpm for a vehicle in motion or locking the engine.

    3.Providing captcha in case driver is sober.

    4.Booking a cab home for severely drunk drivers.
